A variable frequency foil (VFF) box assembly (36a', 36b', 36c') and mechanis ms for moving individual foils/foil beams and individual foil beam sets relativ e to each other to adjust the frequency of a paper making machine, and method of use are provided. The VFF box assembly (36a', 36b', 36c') allows for continuously and uniformly adjusting the pitch distances (x) of individual foils within foil sets over a finite range, and also adjusting the distance (2x) between foil sets during the continuous operation of a paper making machine.
