A heave suppressed, floating offshore drilling and production platform having vertical columns (3), lateral trusses (2) connecting adjacent columns, a deep-submerged plate (1) supported from the bottoms of the columns by vertical truss legs (2), and a topside deck supported by the columns. The lateral trusses (5) connect adjacent columns near their lower ends to enhance the structural integrity of the platform. During the launch of the platform and towing in relatively shallow water, the truss legs (2) are stowed in shafts (4) within each column, and the plate (1) is carried below the lower ends of the columns. After the platform is floating to the deep water drilling site, the legs (2) are lowered from the shafts (4) to a deep draft for reducing the effect of wave forces and providing heave and vertical motion resistance to the platform. |
