An organic EL device and a method for manufacturing the organic EL device are provided which are capable of providing a high rectification ratio without a decrease in a throughput in manufacturing the organic EL device. In the organic EL device, device main components having an anode, hole transporting layer, organic light emitting layer, first cathode, and second cathode are formed on an insulating substrate with oxygen existing in an interface between the organic light emitting layer and first cathode.
