Apparatus to investigate chemical reactions comprises a graduated autoclave array of autoclave modules (1-8) consisting of a reactor casing fixed via a reaction vessel. The casing is connected to a pressure regulating chamber containing a pressure sensor via a controllable autoclave valve. The pressure regulating chamber (21) is connected to a gas supply and a gas outlet via a controllable valve. An Independent claim is also included for a process for determining the suitable conditions of a chemical reaction comprising placing individual reactions sets into autoclave modules, successively adjusting the theoretical pressures in each module, regulating the pressures in the modules by time multiplexing, and relieving the pressure in the apparatus and removing the reaction vessel for analyzing the reaction products.
