Heating circuit for motor vehicles with IC engine with exhaust gas heat transferred into heating circuit for additional heating purposes

The heating circuit has an additional heater, which is part of a separate shorted circuit, and this can be witched into the heating circuit via switching device. The exhaust system of the vehicle engine (1) is used as additional heater, with exhaust gas heat being transferred into the heating circuit (3). When the exhaust heat volume falls below the heating demand of the vehicle heating system, engine operation parameters are changed to increase heat output. The exhaust system contains a pre-catalyst (41) with engine exhaust flowing through it, and a downstream exhaust heat exchanger (33).
