A vertically guided (15) slide (14) carries two 90 deg offset coupled transfer units (18) swiveling round a vertical axis. The units can be raised or lowered individually and are made up of line sectors (8,9), tail spindles (10,11) and grippers (12,13). Preferably the units can be adjusted at angles to each other round their swivel axis by means of an NC servomotor. The slide (14) runs up and down by belt or chain or by hydraulics and is powered by servomotor (19). Several pairs of transfers can be set at various levels as required.
