The network element monitoring method uses a central monitoring system (40) associated with a land network, with transmission of information from a source network element (50) of a first mobile network (D1) to a target network element (60) of a second mobile network and provision of a system fault indication at the source network when the connection is not established within a defined interval. The system fault indication is incorporated in a signalisation information transmitted via an intermediate network (30) and evaluated via the central monitoring system, for identification of system faults.
