To reduce the aerodynamic resistance of an aircraft (1), the boundary layer flow at the fuselage skin is removed by suction and the extracted air mass is passed to an on-board fuel cell system (5) to generate energy. The boundary layer flow is taken from the wings (2) or the rudder structure. A compressor extracts the boundary layer flow from the fuselage skin, by suction, and the compressor outlet is linked to the air supply (4) of the fuel cell system.
