A procedure for the stabilization of a vehicle has the following steps: - recognition of a critical periodic oscillation movement of the vehicle, the movement having an oscillation frequency lying within a given critical frequency range and an oscillation amplitude lying above an upper amplitude threshold; - damping of the recognized critical periodic vehicle oscillation movement by a yaw moment changing periodically that is applied by brake engagement on alternate sides on the vehicle. The yaw moment working against the vehicle oscillation movement is applied with a phase delay to the periodic vehicle oscillation movement and has a frequency that corresponds to the oscillation frequency of the vehicle oscillation movement.
