PURPOSE: A green fluorescent substance and an image display device using the substance are provided, which is suitable for the high definition display and is improved in the characteristics of luminous color. CONSTITUTION: The green fluorescent substance is represented by the formula: (Y(1-x-a)GdxMa)_(3-3y)Tb3y (Al(1-z) Gaz)5O12, wherein 0<x <= 1, 0 <= a<1, 0<x+a <= 1, 0<y <1 and 0 <= z <= 1; and M is at least one selected from the group consisting of SC, Yb and La. Potassium sulfate is added as a flux when the fluorescent substance is prepared. Preferably the fluorescent substance comprises further at least one selected from the group consisting of Zn2Si4:Mn, Y2SiO5:Tb, LaOCl:Tb and InBO3:Tb. The intensity of diffraction line of GdAlO3 (211) is 1/10 or less than that of diffraction line of the green fluorescent substance (420), measured by using Cu Kαray. |
