The piston, for an internal combustion motor, is composed at least of a base section (1) and a fitted ring section (3) which, together, form a cooling channel (8) for a coolant flow. The ring section is welded to the base only by a welded joint (4), and the ring section is supported at the base by a projection (5) at a butting point (7). The welded joint is in alignment with the butting point.
