<p>A brace for protecting windows (20) and buildings during a high wind storm is disclosed. The brace (10) includes a rigid member (13) sized so as to fit within a window frame (15) containing the window (20) to be protected, and double-sided tape (12) affixed to one side of the rigid member (13) for affixing the rigid member (13) to the window (20) to be protected. Various methods for imparting a force to the brace to cause it to become firmly wedged (104) within the window frame (15) of the window (20) and building to be protected are also disclosed, and include the use of the installer's hands, the use of a hinged member (102) rotatably connected to the brace (10) which can be firmly wedged (104) against the window frame (15), and the use of a ratchet (204) to advance a dampening member from within the brace (10) to firmly engage the window frame (15). Methods of using the brace are also disclosed.</p> |
