The invention relates to a method for controlling an interchangeable cartridge for microscopes, whereby the simple catch principle is combined with a forward-looking operating mode having a particular operating speed profile on path v(x). Said profile can be pre-determined in accordance with the known stop positions xI. In this way, the braking process can be triggered before the capture range is reached, i.e. before the stop signal is initiated. Contrary to the free positioning carried out by a step-by-step motor or by a position-regulated drive, no particular precision is required, as the capture range of the stop device can compensate for larger tolerances.
