PURPOSE: A cosmetic composition containing one or more selected from a Liquidambar taiwaniana Hance extract and Cynanchum atratum Bunge. extract having a melanogenesis-inhibiting effect is provided which exhibits a skin whitening effect and reduced pigmentation without adverse effect on the skin. CONSTITUTION: This cosmetic composition contains 0.0001 to 10.0% by weight of a Liquidambar taiwaniana Hance extract and Cynanchum atratum Bunge. extract(dry basis) as an effective component. The Liquidambar taiwaniana Hance extract and Cynanchum atratum Bunge. extract are obtained by extracting with water, C1-4 lower alcohol, ethylacetate or acetone one or more times and freeze drying or spay drying after reduced pressure distillation.
