<p>The invention relates to a method of identifying at least a media length value for a roll-type media (18) to be printed upon to a printer controller in a printer (10). The method comprising the steps of installing a roll (30) of the media in the printer; conducting printing operations onto a portion of the media to print or plot one or more print jobs using the printer and removing the portion of the media from the roll. After conducting printing operations, and prior to removing the roll from the printer, and with the printer used to conduct the printing operations, printing indicia (32) on a remaining portion of the roll which is indicative of at least the remaining length of the print medium. The roll is then removed from the printer. The invention also relates to a method for identifying at least one media parameter for a media to be printed upon by a printer. The method comprising the steps of conducting one or more printing operation on the media to print one or more print jobs on a portion of the print media using the printer, removing the portion of the print media after completion of the one or more printing operations; and upon occurrence of an event, and after completion of the one or more printing jobs and after removing the portion of the print media, printing, with the printer used to conduct the one or more print jobs, indicia on a further portion of the media indicative of the at least one media parameter.</p> |
