Measuring paint film thickness

A system 10 is provided for automatically measuring paint film thickness of painted bodies 12 for closed loop control of a paint process for painting the bodies 12 in a paint booth 14. The system includes a cell 28 for receiving painted bodies 12 from the paint booth 14 and a conveyor control system for controlling the movement of painted bodies 12 between the paint booth 14 and the cell 28. The system also includes an AutoPelt system 32 communicating with the conveyor control system for measuring paint film thickness of the painted bodies 12 in the cells 28. The system includes an integrated paint quality control (IPQC) monitoring system 48 communicating with the AutoPelt system 32 for receiving data of paint film thickness information and combining the paint film thickness information with automation parameters on a vehicle identification number (VIN) basis of the painted bodies 12 to control paint automation equipment of the paint booth 14.
