PURPOSE: A cable modem and a method for displaying an error state are provided to offer more detailed state information and easy problem solving information associated with an modem operation to a cable modem service provider and a user by embedding an LCD and displaying a cable modem operation and the error state as a double-figure hexadecimal number. CONSTITUTION: A state sensing unit(210) generates a control signal corresponding to the state of a cable modem. A 7 segment luminous display element driver software unit(220) generates an error code corresponding to the control signal and displays the generated error code. A 7 segment luminous display element(230) displays an error code according to the control of the 7 segment luminous display element driver software unit(220).
