PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phenol novolak resin that develops excellent fluidity, moisture absorption and heat resistance as a curing agent for epoxy resin and the like and to provide cured products therefrom. SOLUTION: This invention can be achieved by the heat-resistant phenol novolak resin that comprises a phenolic resin having a structure represented by the following general formula (1) (R1 and R2 are each a 1-4C alkyl; m is an integer of 0-3; l is an integer of 0-4) and at least one compound selected from the compounds synthesized from aromatic diamines, aromatic tetracarboxylic dianhydrides or their derivatives and has a viscosity of <=50 poise at 150 deg.C.
