PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for coating film to obtain a coating film satisfactorily reduced in the formation of craters and pinholes, being free from coating defects, and being sufficiently smooth even when the coating film is formed by a 3-coat 1-bake system. SOLUTION: A 3-coat 1-bake method for forming a coating film comprises coating the surface of a substrate successively with an intercoating material, a base coating material, and a clear coating material by a wet-on-wet method and baking the resulting coating film to cure the respective coating films, wherein benzoin or a derivative thereof and a vinyl polymer having a weight-average molecular weight of 10,000-180,000 are added to at least one of the above coating materials.
