PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the success probability of visual line re-detection of a visual line detector when the detector performs the visual line re-detection after the detector acquires the individual difference correction information on the visual line of an observer. SOLUTION: The visual line detector is provided with a visual line detecting means which performs visual line re-detecting operations for repeating visual line detection until the detector can detect the visual line of the observer within a prescribed maximum number of times when the visual line detection performed by the detector by irradiating the eye of the observer with light from a light source is failed, a storing means which stores prescribed individual difference information at every observer at the time of detecting the visual lines of the observers, and a correcting means which performs correction on the information detected by means of the detecting means based on the individual difference information stored in the storing means. The detector is also provided with a re-detecting operation control means which changes the setting of the lighting condition of the light source (#125→#116 or #125→#126→#116) at the time of performing the re-detecting operations between the case where the individual difference information is stored in the storing means and another case where the information is not stored in the storing means.
