PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new organopolysiloxane having carboxyl groups, capable of sufficiently meeting diversified quality requirements. SOLUTION: This organopolysiloxane has one or more carboxyl groups and/or carboxylate salts in its molecule, and further has groups which contain ester bonds or amide bonds formed between silicon atoms and the carboxyl groups and/or the carboxylate salts.
