PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out shape-stabilizing treatment of lumber for building at a low cost while useful characteristics intrinsically provided to the lumber are left as they are. SOLUTION: The whole or only and optional part of lumber in a hydrated state is pressurized and treated by compaction. This system is composed of a lumber-fixing part A wherein a pair of controlling boards 2 are disposed in upright on both sides of a long definite board 1; compression rollers B1 and B2 rolling on the lumber-fixing part A; and a recovery-controlling part C comprising a covering board 3 and a fixing roller 4. Then, the lumber W to be compressed is fitted into the lumber-fixing part A in a hydrated state, the compression rollers B1 and B2 are rolled on the lumber W to compact only an outer layer part of the lumber W by compression, and a shape- stabilizing treatment is carried out by impregnating the lumber W with stabilization-treating solution F.
