Linear phosphine-borane polymers and methods of preparation therefor

Linear backbone phosphorus-boron polymers of the general formula (I):wherein R1, R2, R3, and R4, are the same or different and selected from H, optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl and phenyl; and n is at least 2, and particularly high molecular weight polymers of absolute weight average molecular weight of at least 10,000. The polymers are of use as fire retardants.
