PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing carbon monoxide in which a process for purifying obtained gaseous carbon monoxide and a process for regenerating an ion exchange resin are not necessary when carbon monoxide is produced by decomposing methyl formate in the presence of the ion exchange resin, advantages are ensured in terms of a process and heat energy and high purity carbon monoxide is stably produced over a long period of time. SOLUTION: Methyl formate is decomposed under the coexistence of a highly basic anion exchange resin and a metallic alcoholate to produce carbon monoxide.
