PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a pharmaceutical composition comprising a mixture of amlodipine enantiomers, which composition has both anti-hypertensive and additional cardiovascular properties derived respectively from their calcium channel-blocking activities and their abilities to release vascular nitric oxide(NO). SOLUTION: This pharmaceutical composition is characterized in that the composition comprises an NO release amount of amlodipine R(+) enantiomer, its pharmaceutically acceptable salt, an anti-hypertensive amount of amlodipine S(-) enantiomer or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt, a proper excipient, a diluent or a carrier and the enantiomers are present in the mass ratio based on free bases of R(+) enantiomer:S(-) enantiomer of larger than 1:1. The pharmaceutical composition produces both anti-hypertensive and additional cardiovascular properties derived respectively from their calcium channel- blocking activities and their abilities to release vascular nitric oxide(NO).
