PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high quality recording image exhibiting a sharp edge for a print medium having a rough surface smoothness stably. SOLUTION: Using a thermal transfer recording material 23 having a dynamic shear elastic modulus of 1×103-8×105 Pa and loss tangent tanδ of 0.6-2.5 in dynamic viscoelasicity measurement at 0.5 Hz in the temperature range from melting point to melting point +50 deg.C, a line thermal head brings a heating element 36 into pressure contact with a thermal transfer recording medium under a load per unit length of the heating element in the main scanning direction of 0.3-1.0 N/mm. The thermal transfer recording material is stripped from the support 22 of the thermal transfer recording medium 21 under softened or fused state and transferred to a print medium 5 at the time of recording.
