PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved basal metabolic rate computation device in which the computed value of a basal metabolic rate accurately correlates with an actual measurement value. SOLUTION: A basal metabolic rate is determined by obtaining the age of a subject, determining the lean body mass of the subject, computing the basal metabolic rate of the subject using the lean body mass determined and the reciprocal of the age. When the basal metabolic rate (kcal/day) is denoted as BMR, the lean body mass (kg), FFM, and constants A, B and C, the basal metabolic rate can be computed by using the expression BMR=AxFFM+Bx (1/age)+C.
