PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to provide a mechanical pencil, which facilitates the grasping of an internally stored lead and the discrimination of a lead color and is excellent in displaying properties. SOLUTION: In a retractable mechanical pencil, in which a barrel 1 and a lead case 3 are made of transparent or colored transparent resin moldings and a collet 6 is fixed ahead the lead case, a lead guiding member 5 having a lead guiding part 5b at a rear end and a lead insertion hole at a front axis center is arranged in the front inner hole part of the lead case 3 so as to nearly abuttingly contact the front end of the lead guiding member 5 with the rear end of the collet 6 and coincidently fix both the axis centers of the lead guiding member and of the collet with each other. Further, the distance between the front end of a tip pipe 10b projecting beyond the front end of a mouth tip part and the lead guiding part 5b provided in the lead case 3 is provided so as to be nearly equal to or longer than the total length of a lead.
