PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly cut a printed tape in a tape printer. SOLUTION: When a tape cutter 90 is rotated and a movable blade 98 is moved toward a fixed blade 91, a tape presser 93 which is urged by a spring 95 is moved toward a running passage of the tape T. As a fixed wall 97 is provided to a side opposite the tape T with the running passage therebetween, the tape presser 93 fixes the tape T on a position between the presser 93 and the fixed wall 97 before cutting the tape T by means of the movable blade 98 and the fixed blade 91. The moving of the tape presser 93 is detected by a detection switch 99. The detection switch 99 is provided to a position in a way of a common line which is connected to a CPU 110 from a printer controller 120 and a motor driver 122. The detection switch 99 detects a use condition of a cutting mechanism and operates when the cutting mechanism is going to be used during the printing. By the operation of the detection switch 99, an operation of a printer section 50B is immediately stopped.
