PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an indole-containing condensed ring compound and a compound to be selectively bonded to an M4 muscarine receptor and to provide a method for treating Parkinson's disease. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I (R1 is hydrogen, a lower alkyl, a COOR7, a (nonsubstituted) substituted aryl, a (nonsubstituted) substituted heteroaryl, a (nonsubstituted) arylalkyl or a (nonsubstituted) substituted heteroarylalkyl; R3 is hydrogen or a lower alkyl; R2, R4, R5 and R6 are each independently hydrogen, a halogen, a lower alkyl, a lower alkoxy, hydroxy, cyano, nitro, amino, a mono- or dialkylamino, carboxy, an alkoxycarbonyl, carbamoyl, sulfamoyl, trifluoromethyl or an alkylthio; R7 is hydrogen or a lower alkyl; R8 is hydrogen or oxo), its pharmaceutically acceptable salt, ester, amide and prodrug. The compound is useful as a selective antagonist for an M4 muscarine receptor and a therapeutic agent for Parkinson's disease.
