PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily producing a 4-haloalkoxybenzyl alcohol which is an intermediate for synthesizing an aminopyrimidine derivative useful as an insecticide, miticide, bactericide, and nematocide. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 4-haloalkoxybenzyl alcohol comprises, for example, reducing a 4-haloalkoxybenzoly halide or 4- haloalkoxybenzoic ester by using sodium hydride and trimethyl borate.
