PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motor-driven reel for fishing, effective for suppressing heat-generation caused by the continuous operation of a spool motor to prevent the deformation, breakage, lowering of performance, etc., of the peripheral plastic parts and electronic parts, etc., caused by the heat-generation of the spool motor. SOLUTION: The fishing reel is provided with a spool rotatably supported between the side plates of a reel body, a spool motor for driving the spool to wind a fishing line, a clocking means to measure the continuously operating time of the spool motor, a memory means to store the limit of the continuous operation time of the spool motor and a controlling means to compare the time measured by the clocking means with the limit value stored in the memory means and stop the spool motor when the measured value reaches the limit value.
