PURPOSE: Provided is a method for ameliorating redness or inflammation of mammalian skin by topically applying a composition containing an effective amount of a compound selected from alkanolamine, tyrosine or mixtures thereof and a cosmetically acceptable carrier. Whereby, the composition can be used in the treatment of various skin disorders inducing inflammation and erythema. CONSTITUTION: A composition comprising an effective amount of a compound selected from alkanolamine represented by the formula(1), tyrosine or mixtures thereof and a cosmetically acceptable carrier is topically applied to ameliorate redness or inflammation of mammalian skin. In formula, X, Y and Z are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C1-3 alkyl group, C2-4 alkanol group, wherein at least one of X, Y or Z is a C2-4 alkanol group bearing at least one hydroxyl group and optionally at least one carboxyl group.
