PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the inconvenience that in order to check which region in an original copy is to be actually read, a user must either compare and verify input coordinates with an original copy image or once read the copy and display/print out it, and neither is able to confirm directly the region to be read. SOLUTION: The control method of controlling an image reader for reading a subject image with a subject being illuminated by a light source comprises a step of setting a reading region and a step of turning on the light source enough to make confirmable the reading region set by the region setting step.
