PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control reproducing duration for low-quality CD-ROM. SOLUTION: Before reproducing data at 12X (a second speed), a motor 5 installed with a disk 4 is rotated with a high-drive voltage, and then a saturated rotation speed is detected. Pass/fail of the disk is determined based on the saturated rotation speed. If the disk quality is poor, the maximum rotation speed is controlled.
