The packaging machine, e.g. for fresh foodstuffs (C) in plastic trays (D), has a sealing film welding plate (3) with the portion of its surface not needed for welding made with a cavity covered by a supple membrane (15). The membrane's deformation is controlled so that the sealing film (B) is stretched by the surface of the product and is not deformed during the subsequent gas extraction, injection and welding operations.
