The seat comprises a back which can be folded down on the seat part. The back is locked into pre-specified stable positions by a locking plate (3), connected to one of the frame webs, which comprises two angularly displaced radial notches (321,322). A slide (4), guided relative to the frame second web, carries pegs (47,48) and is moved in a radial direction. The slide can move between a locking position where the pegs are engaged in one of the notches and prevent rotation of the locking plate relative to the slide and an unlocked position where the peg is outside the notches and rotation can occur. A return spring (45) acts on the runner in the locking direction and a control lever (5) acts on the slide to disengage the pegs from the notch against the return spring.
