PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the current magnetic field that arises from the electrode of a magneto resistive effect film to make the effect given to the magneto resistive effect film as small as possible. SOLUTION: This head is characterized in that it comprises a magnetic yoke 13a with a magnetic gap 14, a magnetization free layer where the direction of the magnetization moves in proportion to the direction in the predetermined signal magnetic field, a nonmagnetic layer laminated on the magnetization free layer and a magnetization fixing layer which is laminated on the magnetization free layer and does not substantially change the direction of magnetization even in the predetermined signal field. The head is further characterized in that it is constituted so that the area size of a partial film surface of the magnetization fixing layer may become smaller than the area size of the film surface of the magnetization free layer and comprises a magneto resistive effect film 5 magnetically connected with the magnetic yoke, and in that a portion including the magnetic gap on the surface of the opposite side of the medium facing surface of the magnetic yoke is electrically connected with the top surface of the magnetization fixing layer of the magneto resistive effect film.
