PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone system which enhances the operability by omitting the labor of performing he dial operation by hand from a general telephone, by effectively utilizing the telephone directory function of a portable telephone. SOLUTION: The telephone number data 12 of the telephone directory 11 of a portable telephone 10 is retrieved with a retriever 13, and the retrieved telephone number data 12 are sent by radio to the receiver 23 of a general telephone 20 from the transmitter 15 of the portable telephone 10. Then, this receiver 23 converts the received telephone number data 12 into a push button signal or a dial pulse signal with a converter 24, and a transmitter 25 performs cable communication (public circuit) via a hook switch 22.
