PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a histogram calculation circuit in which larger numerical expression is possible by a storage means of small word length so as to be difficult to depend on the pixel number of the input image data. SOLUTION: In this histogram calculation circuit in which the concentration of the image data to be successively input is set to be an address, the operation for operating the data recorded in a storage area designated by the address is repeated to calculate the concentration histogram of the image, the histogram comprises the temporary histogram data and the shift quantity, and if the temporary histogram data overflows, the number 1 is added to the shift quantity to shift the data part to the right by 1 bit, and the final histogram is obtained by shifting the temporary histogram data to the left by the shift quantity.
