PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To estimate the direction of arrival of signals in each path of a transmission channel which has more than one propagation path and a complex coefficient that characterizes each path (attenuation and phase rotation). SOLUTION: A method is for estimating the channel and the direction of arrival of a signal transmitted by a transmitter and received by an array of antennas, after propagating along at least one path. The method comprises, for each path, a first step of estimating phase differences (ξ1) in the signals received by different antennas in the array, a second step of estimating the angle of arrival (θ) of the signal as well as the phase rotation (v) undergone by the signal along the path from the phase differences, and a third step of estimating the attenuation (α) undergone by the signal along the path from the estimated values (v,θ) of the phase rotation and the angle of arrival.
