PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic still camera that obtains images with of superior S/N. SOLUTION: The electronic still camera, that decides on photographing conditions, using an output of a solid-state image pickup element in a preliminary photographing operation, prior to main photographing and generates a main photographing image using an output signal fed from the solid-state image pickup element, is provided with the solid-state image pickup element, a means for making a video signal read rate which is lower from the solid-state image pickup element in the main photographing operation than that from the solid- state image pickup element in the preliminary photographing operation; and a bandwidth variable means that is placed in a video signal path from the solid-state image pickup element and makes the signal pass bandwidth narrower in the main photographing operation than that in the preliminary photographing operation. |
