PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital broadcast receiver with low power consumption. SOLUTION: A TS reproduction section 4 includes a data buffer 22a that temporarily stores a data stream DTS and provides an output of a data packet DTP for each unit of transmission packets, a dummy data generating section 22b that generates dummy data DMY in compliance with the MPEG 2 standards, and a data selector 22c. An external code decoding section 5 applies Reed Solomon decoding to the data packet DTP for error correction. Since the data selector 22c is controlled depending on a data storage quantity of the data buffer 22a and outputs the dummy data DMY to an MPEG decode section 6 for a period when the data packet based on a broadcast radio wave cannot be generated, the operation of the external code decoding section 5 for this period is stopped to reduce the power consumption.
