PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a surveillance camera system with excellent operability that records a digital video signal of a camera over a long time and can quickly analyze and retrieve data. SOLUTION: The surveillance camera system comprises a camera 1 that outputs a video signal from an imaging device, a controller 2 that processes the video signal, and a monitor 3 that displays the signal from the controller 2. In the controller 2, a conversion section 21 converts a video image from the camera 1 into digital image data, a processing section 22 applies video image processing to the data, and a control section 24 stores the image data into a recording section 25 or reads the image data from the recording section 25. An output section 23 converts the image data from the conversion section 21 or the recording section 25 into a video signal and outputs it to the monitor 3. The control section 24 is provided with a means that divides an image into optional meshes, manages each mesh and manages the grouped meshes within a prescribed range. Thus, the camera image is analyzed, a mesh whose luminance distribution is changes is traced and along which locus the mesh traces can be analyzed.
