A host site is set up from a server (S) connected to a database (S), users of this host site are provided with an identification code and information on these users is entered into the database. The host site manager or proxy provides a recognition component to at least one second web site so that a visitor to this particular web site is contacted by the managers server in order to establish whether the visitor is a user of the host site. If the visitor is registered in the database as being a user of the host site, then the visit of the user to the second web site is recorded.
