PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transformer which is reduced in size and weight by a method wherein a chemical compound, which is decreased in permittivity without deteriorating it so much in mechanical strength as compared with cellulose, is utilized as insulating material so as to make the insulating material match the medium in permittivity, an electric apparatus, especially an oil- immersed electric equipment such as an oil-immersed transformer can be improved in dielectric strength by using the above insulating material, and an insulation distance can be shortened. SOLUTION: Insulating material containing alkyl etherified cellulose compound that has a degree of substitution 0.9 to 2.1 is used as a transformer insulating material.
