PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for demodulation, where low power consumption can be achieved, even by using a joint detecting demodulation. SOLUTION: The number of diffusion codes which are multiplexed in a received signal is detected. When the number of the detected diffusion codes is smaller than a prescribed threshold, a changeover device 4 and a changeover device 5 are changed over to the side of a RAKE demodulation part 2. When the number is a prescribed threshold or larger, the changeover devices are changed over to a joint detection demodulation part 3. When the number of multiplexed diffusion codes is large, i.e., when the number of users is large, the joint detection demodulation whose power consumption is large is sued, and the power at demodulation time can be saved. |
