PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light energy converting material and a light energy converting method for achieving both sufficiently high light energy absorbing efficiency and electron transfer efficiency from electron donators to electron acceptors and sufficiently high light energy converting efficiency. SOLUTION: The light energy converting material comprises light active coloring matters 1, the electron donators 2, the electron acceptors 3 and porous structures 4 having small pores 5a, 5b with small pore walls being 2 nm or less in thickness. The light active coloring matter 1 is arranged inside the pore 5a or the outside of the porous structure 4, at least one of the electron donator 2 or the electron acceptor 3 is arranged inside the small pore 5b and the electron donator 2 and the electron acceptor 3 are arranged via the small pore wall without directly neighboring each other.
