PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient, small-sized, direct-acting rotary motor or linear motor. SOLUTION: In the direct-drive motor, either of the stator 20 and the mover 15 thereof comprises an excitation portion provided with a yoke 1, grooves 2a to 2d formed on the yoke 1 on a side opposite to the stator 20, as the result of formation of comb tooth-shaped projected portions 1a to 1e having a prescribed pitch, permanent magnets 3a to 3d placed in the openings of the grooves 2a to 2d, hole portions 4a to 4d formed as the result of installation of the permanent magnets 3a to 3d in the grooves 2a to 2d, and excitation coils 5a to 5e wound between the hole portions 4a to 4d, respectively. The other stator 20 and the mover 15 comprise an attracting portion provided with protruded portions 11a to 11e, consecutively formed with the same pitch as the prescribed pitch. Magnetic paths to be formed by the permanent magnets 3a to 3d through the application of direct-current pulses to the excitation coils 5a to 5e are formed through the projected portions 1a to 1e and the protruded portions 11a to 11e to produce an attractive force between them. As a result, the mover 15 gains thrust for movement in a second direction relative to the stator 20.
