SPINDLE MOTOR AND FLOPPY DISK (R) DRIVE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a spindle motor which can retain enough amount of grease in the bearing and provide a reliable thin floppy disk drive. SOLUTION: A spindle motor used in a floppy disk drive has a radial bearing 28 to radially support the spindle shaft 2 and a thrust ball bearing disposed outside the radial bearing 28 to support the thrust load. Part of the a ball pocket in the retainer 27 of the thrust ball bearing is filled with grease in place of the balls to prolong the greased life of the motor to improve its reliability. Thus, a reliable spindle motor and a thin floppy disk drive using this spindle motor are realized.
